Couple Sends "You're Not Invited" Cards To Family Members, Assigns Tasks To Invited Guests

A soon-to-be-married couple left a family member taken aback after sharing their decision to send "you are not invited cards" to the people who didn't make the cut on their wedding guest list. In Reddit's popular forum, Wedding Shaming, one cousin shared their reaction to the surprising news, explaining that the couple is planning a "small garden wedding" at a location five hours away from where everyone lives and has chosen to keep the guest list small due to their tight budget. Because of their wedding size, the bride and groom were forced to make cuts from their guest list. So, rather than leaving the uninvited bunch without a word, the couple sent out cards. 

"I just found out that the wedding couple are sending 'cards' to people that are not invited that they are getting married soon and 'you are in our hearts on this special day' BEFORE the wedding," the Redditor wrote. 

"Their excuse is for the sake of 'curiosity and thinking of them.' But what I don't understand is why send this BEFORE the wedding. It would make more sense AFTER and send it out to them," they added.

What's more, the Redditor said that guests invited to the wedding would be assigned tasks after the ceremony. Unless you're in the bridal party, you'll need to help set up for the reception. "Once the ceremony is done the wedding party will leave to take photos while the GUESTS set up the tables for the reception," the cousin explained. "I was like what??? They never ASKED if people are willing to do that as if they just dictated people what to do," they wrote. 

"Where is the respect, etiquette and morals. They said that financially they cant hire people to set up but they had almost 2 years to save and what did they do to save? They went travelling instead of saving for the wedding," the cousin said. They also wrote that bride and groom assigned their parents errands to take care of on their big day. Additionally, the bride is planning to invite friends to her bridal shower who won't be invited to her wedding. "Wish me luck on this upcoming wedding," the original poster finished.

The Reddit post was shared a few days back. Since then, it has accumulated more than hundreds of upvotes. In the comments section, users agreed that the couple's actions are off-putting.

"What they are planning sucks and is rude and that's reason to not attend. If you do want to go to see family and to see a possible train wreck, make it clear that you aren't going to help set anything up," wrote one user. "I am always looking for excuses not to go to a wedding, and this one would be a jackpot," commented another. 

"I guess the wedding will be smaller than expected because I would definitely send my regrets. Wow - just unbelievable," expressed a third user. "Depending on if you would like to see the family and are otherwise healthy. Go and setup a few tables. Later when they ask about what happened to their gift, say you thought that was the gift," suggested another.

2.08% Of Rs 2000 Notes, Valued Rs 7,409 Crore, Still To Be Returned: RBI

About 2.08 per cent or Rs 7,409 crore of the withdrawn Rs 2,000 banknotes have not yet been returned to the RBI, about ten months after the deadline to deposit or exchange them at bank branches were over.

This essentially means 97.92 per cent of the total value of the high-value Rs 2,000 banknotes are back in the banking system by the end of July 2024, the Reserve Bank of India said in an update on Thursday.

The total value of Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, the date on which RBI decided to withdraw the banknote.

The last day for the public to avail of exchange or to deposit high-value Rs 2000 banknotes at the banks was October 7, 2023. However, the window for depositing and/or exchanging the Rs 2,000 banknotes continues to be available at the 19 issue offices of the RBI.

Those 19 RBI issue offices are in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.

People from within the country can send Rs 2,000 banknotes through India Post from any post office to any of RBI Issue Offices for credit to their bank accounts in India.

The Rs 2000 banknotes continue to be legal tender.

The Rs 2000 banknote was introduced in November 2016, primarily to meet the currency requirements of the economy expeditiously after the withdrawal of the legal tender status of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes in circulation at that time.

The objective of introducing Rs 2000 banknotes was met once banknotes in other denominations became available in adequate quantities. Therefore, the printing of Rs 2000 banknotes was stopped in 2018-19.

Mumbai Man, 19, Holds Girl's Hand, Says "I Love You", Jailed For 2 Years

A special POCSO court in Mumbai has sentenced a 19-year-old man to two years rigorous imprisonment for holding the hand of a minor girl and saying 'I love you'.

The special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court judge, Ashwini Lokhande, held that the words uttered by the accused certainly outraged the modesty of the 14-year-old girl. 

The court, in its order passed on July 30, pronounced the accused guilty of harassment under the IPC.

The accused was, however, acquitted of charges under the stringent POCSO Act.

As per the prosecution, the minor girl's mother had lodged a complaint with the Sakinaka police station in September 2019. The complainant told the police her daughter went to a nearby shop to buy tea dust, but returned home crying.

Upon enquiry, the girl told her mother a man accosted her on the first floor of the building, held her hand and said 'I love you', according to the complaint.

The young man pleaded not guilty to charges brought against him. During the trial, the prosecution examined four witnesses, including the girl and her mother, to establish the guilt of the accused.

The accused claimed innocence and defended himself, claiming he was having an affair with the girl and she herself called him to meet on the day of the incident.

The court, in its order, however, noted that if the girl had an affair with the accused, she would have not narrated the incident to her mother under fear.

Further, when the girl's mother went to confront the accused after the incident, he threatened and asked her to "do whatever she wanted", the judge observed.

The evidence of the girl and her mother is corroborated with each other. Nothing material has come on record to rebut their evidence, contended the court.

Moreover, the suggestion regarding the love affair of the girl with the accused was denied by both these witnesses (minor girl and her mother), the court said, adding their evidence inspires confidence.

"It is established that the accused applied criminal force to the victim by holding her hand while she was proceeding to bring tea dust. The words uttered by the accused certainly outraged the modesty of the victim who was 14 years old at the time of the incident," the judge noted.

Joe Biden Expresses "Deepest Condolences" Over Kerala Landslides

US President Joe Biden on Thursday expressed his deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district.

"Jill and I extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by the deadly landslides in the state of Kerala in India," the US President said in a statement.

"Our prayers are with the victims of this tragic event, and we mourn with the families who have lost loved ones. We commend the bravery of the Indian service members and first responders supporting the complex recovery effort. We will continue to hold the people of India in our thoughts during this difficult time," he added.

Back-to-back landslides devastated Wayanad late on Tuesday night, leaving at least 281 dead and over 200 missing with scores of habitations wiped out.

The massive rescue operation, involving personnel from all three armed forces, police, disaster relief agencies, and fire services besides locals and volunteers, is currently on at the four worst-affected landslide areas of Wayanad -- Churalpara, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Pothukalu.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday the army has informed him that there is no chance of any more survivors in the worst-affected areas.

A bailey bridge at Churalmala is now ready and will enable big earth-moving equipment to reach the places which have been cut off.

"Now the need of the hour is for a proper rehabilitation programme and we have already started working on it. We do have good experience of handling rehabilitation and hence it will be done," the Chief Minister said.

More than 8,000 people have been evacuated safely and put up in 82 relief camps.

6 Delhi Weather Stations Record Over 100 MM Rainfall In 1 Day

Six weather stations across Delhi recorded over 100 mm of rain in a single day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday, categorising it as an "extremely intense spell".

During a press conference, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, clarified that the intense rain witnessed in the city was not a cloudburst.

According to the IMD, the city's primary weather station, Safdarjung, recorded 107 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Other stations, which also received significant rainfall, included Mayur Vihar (147 mm), Najafgarh and Ridge (113 mm), Lodi Road (106 mm) and Delhi University (104 mm), it said.

In contrast, other stations like Pusa recorded 86 mm, Aaya Nagar (71 mm) and the Palam observatory (68.3 mm) of rain, as per the IMD data. Mohapatra explained that the IMD had initially placed Delhi on an 'orange' alert but as the situation intensified, the alert level was upgraded to 'red'.

"Yesterday's condition was not a cloudburst, it was an extremely intense spell," he added.

The weather office has issued a 'yellow' alert for Thursday and Friday as light to moderate rain is expected in the city. The IMD uses colour codes in weather warnings "for bringing out the severity of the weather phenomena expected". The key idea is to forewarn relevant officials and the disaster management authority "about the impact of the weather expected so as to keep them ready for necessary action related to disaster risk reduction".

'Green' alert means no advisory is required, 'yellow' indicates be aware as the conditions will worsen, causing disruptions to daily life.

'Orange' denotes prepare for likely power outages and potential disruptions to transport, rail, road, and air, and 'red' means take action as an extremely bad weather condition is expected to disrupt transportation and power supply and could pose a risk to life.

According to the IMD parameters, 2.5-15.5 mm of rain is considered light rainfall, 15.6 mm-64.4 mm as moderate, 64.5-115.5 mm as heavy, 115.6-204.4 mm as very heavy and over 204.5 mm as extremely heavy. Large parts of Delhi were inundated by heavy showers on Wednesday, with multiple incidents of fallen trees and wall collapses reported from across the city as several key stretches were choked with unending traffic and people left stranded. The torrential downpour prompted the weather office to include the national capital in its list of "areas of concern" in the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin. The department advised people to remain indoors, secure windows and doors, and refrain from unnecessary travel.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced late Wednesday night that all schools in the city will remain closed on Thursday.

The inclement weather also hit air traffic with many flights scheduled to land at the Delhi airport being diverted. Meanwhile, in July, Delhi did not witness a single day when the AQI fell into the poor, very poor, or severe categories, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

US Athlete Reveals What It's Like To Use Tinder Inside Olympic Village

American athlete Emily Delleman recently gave her followers an inside look into what it is like being an athlete using a dating app inside the Olympic Village in Paris. The 26-year-old took to TikTok in her downtime to share what she discovered after downloading Tinder. She detailed her entire journey from re-downloading the app to looking for any potential matches. "So I was laying in my cardboard bed the other day recovering and I was scrolling through TikTok and I was seeing the girlies saying 'hey change your location to the Olympic Village' and I was like 'oh my gosh genius'," she told her followers, as per SkyNews. 

"I haven't had this app downloaded in years, so I go to the app store and they're already hyping it up. They're like 'match with pro athletes using our new feature' ... and I was like okay this must be good. I was getting excited, the expectations were rising," she said. 

Further, Ms Delleman revealed that she didn't see any Olympians in her initial scroll, prompting her to go back and check her location settings. "I was like okay my settings must be weird. No. I'm like location one mile radius and so far I think I've seen a total of two other Olympians," she said, per the outlet. 

"I mean don't get me wrong, you Parisian men are beautiful, chefs kiss like I don't know what they put in the water. But you know I went in with the expectations of finding some of my future plot lines but alas I guess we're searching for other forms of entertainment and that's why you're finding me on TikTok," she added. 

Ms Delleman's video quickly went viral and garnered millions of views. "Someone tag me in part 2," Tinder's official account commented on the video, per SkyNews.

Meanwhile, public interest about the conditions of the village and how athletes spent their time in the facility reached fever pitch. Ms Dellemn's video comes after US tennis star Coco Gauff revealed that she is the only Team USA women's tennis player living in the Olympic Village in Paris after a chaotic living situation forced her teammates to flee to a hotel. Ms Gauff gave a 7-second tour of the American women's tennis players inside the $1.6 billion housing complex. "10 girls, two bathrooms. #olympicvillage," the 20-year-old wrote in a TikTok video on Saturday. 

In the clip, the tennis star revealed that the rooms were meant for 8 people but were being shared by 10. The 20-year-old also said that she even had to borrow a mattress topper from the US Archery team to counter the thin polyethylene mattresses.

Mentally Challenged Woman Raped On Hospital Campus In Madhya Pradesh, 1 Arrested

A 24-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped on the campus of a government medical college and hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Tuesday, police said.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident on the campus of NSCB Medical College and Hospital, Garha police station in-charge Nilesh Dohare said.

The action was taken based on a complaint lodged by activists of Moksha Sanstha, a social organisation, he said.

The woman was staying in a shelter home at the medical college and hospital for the last one-and-a-half-month, Ashish Thakur, founder of Moksha Sanstha, told reporters.

Activists found out about the assault and rushed to the spot in the early hours of the day and took the woman to the police station, he said.
