Post-War Gaza Must Be Part Of Independent Palestine: Turkey's Erdogan

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said Gaza must be part of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state once the Israel-Hamas war is over, and Ankara will not support any plans "gradually erasing Palestinians" from history.

Turkey, which has sharply escalated its criticism of Israel as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has intensified, supports a two-state solution and hosts members of Hamas, which it does not view as a terrorist organisation, unlike the US, Britain and others in the west. Turkey has called for an immediate ceasefire and offered to set up a system to guarantee it.

Speaking to reporters on a return flight from Kazakhstan on Friday, Erdogan repeated his criticism of Western countries for their support of Israel, saying Ankara's trust in the European Union was "deeply shaken".

"Once all of this that is happening is finished, we want to see Gaza as a peaceful region that is a part of an independent Palestinian state, in line with 1967 borders, with territorial integrity, and with East Jerusalem as its capital," Erdogan was on Saturday cited as saying by broadcaster Haberturk and others.

"We will support formulas that will bring peace and calm to the region. We will not be supportive of plans that will further darken the lives of Palestinians, that will gradually erase them from the scene of history."

He also said his intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin was in contact with Israeli and Palestinian authorities, as well as Hamas, but added that he would not regard Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - who Erdogan said was the sole perpetrator of the situation in Gaza - as a counterpart.

"Netanyahu cannot in any way be taken as a counterpart for us anymore. We have erased him, thrown him out," he said. "But otherwise, there can be no such thing as completely severing ties, especially not in international diplomacy," he was cited as saying by Haberturk.

ENVOYS RECALLED

However, Ankara said later on Saturday it was recalling its ambassador to Israel, Sakir Ozkan Torunlar, for consultations, after Israel's recalled its envoys to Turkey last month to reassess their ties following Erdogan's description of Hamas as freedom fighters.

In a statement, Turkey's foreign ministry said Torunlar was recalled "in view of the unfolding humanitarian tragedy in Gaza caused by the continuing attacks by Israel against civilians, and Israel's refusal of calls for ceasefire and continuous and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid."

Israeli diplomats in Turkey had left the country before its foreign ministry recalled them, due to security concerns after pro-Palestinian protests erupted across the country.

Prior to the Israel-Hamas war, Turkey was working to repair relations with Israel after years of acrimony.

Erdogan added that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi would visit Turkey at the end of November, and that he would attend an Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Riyadh this month to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza.

He said Turkey would support any initiatives to ensure that Israel is held accountable for what he described as war crimes and human rights violations, and that a failure to do so would erode trust in the global system.

India is set to open a new consulate in US' Seattle soon, almost seven years after it first announced the initiative, people familiar with the matter said on Saturday. The consulate is likely to be operationalised by the end of this month, they said.

A joint statement issued after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Washington in June mentioned that India will operationalise its new consulate in Seattle later this year.

Attack On Entire Tribal Society: AAP After Party MLA's Wife Arrested In Gujarat

After the wife of Aam Aadmi Party MLA in Gujarat, Chaitar Vasava was arrested and a case was registered against him, party chief Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP and said that the BJP has not attacked Chaitar but the entire tribal society.

Chaitar Vasava is the tribal MLA from the Dediapada constituency and was appointed as the leader of the AAP's legislature in Gujarat.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to X and said "Yesterday, the BJP filed a false case against AAP MLA and senior tribal leader Chaitar Vasava. Even Chaitar Bhai's wife was arrested. The BJP never allowed the tribals to come forward. Just exploited them. When AAP promoted the son of a tribal community, the BJP was not able to tolerate it. The entire tribal community will take this into account. The BJP has attacked not Chaitra Vasava but the entire tribal society."

According to the officials, some bigots have encroached upon the forest land of the Dediapada sub-division of Narmada district. The concerned officials of the forest department rushed to the attention of the system that this land was being illegally occupied and used. Meanwhile, there was a dispute between Dedyapada MLA Chaitar Vasava and forest department employees over the tillage of the land.

Three people have been arrested so far in the case.

Police said that Chaitar Vasava had called the forest official to his house and thrashed him. One round of firing was also done. The MLA is on the run, and police teams are searching for him.

AAP National General Secretary (Organization) and Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak said that these are tactics to keep Chaitar out of the elections and to break him.

"Till date, BJP has not allowed any tribal leader to come forward, it has taken advantage of the tribal society only for elections. Now when Aam Aadmi Party has promoted the son of tribal community @Chaitar_Vasava and made him its leader, then BJP and Modi ji are not able to tolerate it. After all, why does BJP hate the tribal community so much? The entire tribal community and entire Gujarat will take account of this from BJP," Sandeep Pathak said on X.

In the Gujarat elections in 2022, AAP was able to open its account in the state on five seats.

The five AAP MLAs are namely, Bhupat Bhayani, Chaitarbhai Vasava, Hemantbhai Hardasbhai, Sudhir Baghani and Makwana Naranbhai.

Air quality 'Severe' In Some Places In Haryana, 'Poor' In Parts Of Punjab

Many parts of Haryana on Saturday reported air quality indices in the 'severe' and 'very poor' categories while it was 'poor' in parts of neighbouring Punjab.

Punjab reported 1,360 fresh stubble-burning incidents as farmers continued to burn crop residue.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board data on Saturday evening, Fatehabad recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 464, followed by Faridabad at 439, Jind at 428, Kaithal 426, Hisar 425, Sonipat 414, Sirsa 414, Gurugram 410, Bahadurgarh 369, Kurukshetra 325, Rohtak 319 and Bhiwani 307.

In Punjab, Bathinda reported an AQI of 385, followed by Ludhiana 301, Jalandhar 291, Mandi Gobindgarh 277, Amritsar 264, Khanna 265 and Patiala 247.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, saw an AQI of 179.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Meanwhile, with 1,360 new farm fires, the total number of stubble-burning incidents rose to 14,173 till Saturday, according to Ludhiana-based Punjab Remote Sensing Centre data.

The number of total stubble-burning incidents of 14,173 registered from September 15 till November 4 was 47 per cent less than 26,853 such cases in the corresponding period last year, as per the data.

The state had reported 23,465 farm fires during the same period in 2021.

Out of 1,360 stubble-burning incidents reported on Saturday, Sangrur reported a maximum of 240 such cases, followed by 140 in Ferozepur, 120 in Mansa, 116 in Tarn Taran and 112 in Bathinda.

On the same day in 2021 and 2022, the state had seen 3,032 and 2,437 farm fires, respectively.

Paddy straw burning in Punjab and Haryana is considered one of the major reasons behind the alarming spike in air pollution levels in the national capital in October and November. As the window for wheat -- a key Rabi crop -- is very short after paddy harvest, some farmers set their fields on fire to quickly clear off the crop residue for sowing of the next crop.

"Rajasthan Polls Are Also About Congress' Future": Ashok Gehlot

The upcoming assembly election is not just about Rajasthan, it is also about Congress' future, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Wednesday, and added that the country needed the party.

Urging party leaders to reject politics and make Congress candidates win the polls, Ashok Gehlot said that such leaders could later be given official positions by the government.

The party would resolve the issues with those who could not be given a ticket to contest the polls, the chief minister said.

Assembly elections are due in the state on November 25, and counting of votes will be done on December 3.

"Even if we could not give tickets to those who stood by us and to those who saved our government, we have told them to help elect candidates who are contesting for the party. Leave all kinds of politics. Nation is first. The entire country today needs the Congress party," Ashok Gehlot said.

"The election is not just about Rajasthan but it is also an election of Congress' future. If they (party leaders) will make the party win the elections then they will be adjusted in boards after elections. If needed, we will give them the status of ministers."  The chief minister said that it is natural that there is some resentment after ticket distribution among some party workers even though it was done after collective discussions. Still, there can be some complaints, he added.  He exuded confidence that Congress would win the elections.

Replying to a question on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's visit to Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot said, "It is a bulldozer government there. Is this the way to rule? Is it a democracy? Some people become happy due to their words. But if there is no rule of the law then we will also not be secure. Rule of the law is important for everyone."  "They have destroyed law and order. You can imagine where they are taking the country. I don't want to get into it," he said.
