US Athlete Reveals What It's Like To Use Tinder Inside Olympic Village

American athlete Emily Delleman recently gave her followers an inside look into what it is like being an athlete using a dating app inside the Olympic Village in Paris. The 26-year-old took to TikTok in her downtime to share what she discovered after downloading Tinder. She detailed her entire journey from re-downloading the app to looking for any potential matches. "So I was laying in my cardboard bed the other day recovering and I was scrolling through TikTok and I was seeing the girlies saying 'hey change your location to the Olympic Village' and I was like 'oh my gosh genius'," she told her followers, as per SkyNews

"I haven't had this app downloaded in years, so I go to the app store and they're already hyping it up. They're like 'match with pro athletes using our new feature' ... and I was like okay this must be good. I was getting excited, the expectations were rising," she said.

Further, Ms Delleman revealed that she didn't see any Olympians in her initial scroll, prompting her to go back and check her location settings. "I was like okay my settings must be weird. No. I'm like location one mile radius and so far I think I've seen a total of two other Olympians," she said, per the outlet

"I mean don't get me wrong, you Parisian men are beautiful, chefs kiss like I don't know what they put in the water. But you know I went in with the expectations of finding some of my future plot lines but alas I guess we're searching for other forms of entertainment and that's why you're finding me on TikTok," she added.

Ms Delleman's video quickly went viral and garnered millions of views. "Someone tag me in part 2," Tinder's official account commented on the video, per SkyNews

Meanwhile, public interest about the conditions of the village and how athletes spent their time in the facility reached fever pitch. Ms Dellemn's video comes after US tennis star Coco Gauff revealed that she is the only Team USA women's tennis player living in the Olympic Village in Paris after a chaotic living situation forced her teammates to flee to a hotel. Ms Gauff gave a 7-second tour of the American women's tennis players inside the $1.6 billion housing complex. "10 girls, two bathrooms. #olympicvillage," the 20-year-old wrote in a TikTok video on Saturday.

In the clip, the tennis star revealed that the rooms were meant for 8 people but were being shared by 10. The 20-year-old also said that she even had to borrow a mattress topper from the US Archery team to counter the thin polyethylene mattresses.

No Illegal Coaching Centres To Be Spared: Delhi Mayor On Students' Deaths

Following the tragic deaths of three students at a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar due to severe waterlogging, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi stated on Monday that she reached the site immediately after receiving the information, assessed the situation, and assured that illegally operating coaching centres would not be spared.

"Three students died after the basement of their coaching institute here was flooded with rainwater on July 27. As soon as I received information about the incident, I immediately reached the spot and assessed the situation. I wrote a letter to the MCD Commissioner and directed that action be taken against all coaching centres in Delhi that are operating illegally or not following MCD norms," said the Delhi Mayor.

"A sealing drive was launched in Rajinder Nagar by the MCD, during which 13 such coaching centres were seized. Today, another sealing drive took place in Rajinder Nagar, and six coaching institutes were sealed. An encroachment drive also took place. A sealing drive also occurred in Mukherjee Nagar. A Junior Engineer was terminated, and an Assistant Engineer was suspended. No illegal coaching centres will be spared," she further stated.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) formed a high-level committee to investigate the flooding of the basement of the coaching institute, which led to the deaths of three civil service aspirants in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar.

The committee will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify the responsible parties, and recommend measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday after a nearby drain burst, claimed the lives of Shreya Yadav (from Uttar Pradesh), Nivin Dalwin (from Kerala), and Tanya Soni (from Telangana) when the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar was flooded.
The coaching centre was later sealed by the police.

The three civil services aspirants--two women and one man--died after a basement library at Rau's IAS Centre was flooded during heavy rain on Saturday night, reportedly causing the failure of the single biometric entry and exit point.

Tourists Duped Into Eating Dog Meat In Bali, Authorities Launch Crackdown

A recent investigation has revealed that Australian tourists were being tricked into eating dog meat skewers during their holidays on an Indonesian island. On Thursday, Bali officials seized hundreds of kilograms of raw dog meat and numerous skewers from vendors, despite a comprehensive ban on the trade of such meat on the popular resort island, the Independent reported.

According to AFP, public order officers in Bali's Jembrana district seized at least 500 dog meat skewers and 56 kilograms of raw dog meat from various sellers following a series of inspections. Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi, head of the Bali Public Order Agency, said that inspections conducted this week found three vendors still peddling dog meat, defying local regulations that prohibit its sale.

Two of the vendors had previously received warnings from Bali Police regarding their engagement in the trade of dog meat.

"We won't suddenly take legal action, but we are giving them the chance to know the ban and why it was banned. But we will process recurrent (sellers) for deterrent effect. We're not playing around,'' Mr Dharmadi said.

''Dog meat is not food and can also potentially cause disease. Don't believe in the superstitions that dog meat is healthy. That's misleading,'' he added.

Two of the vendors are reportedly set to attend court in August.

Notably, Bali has enacted a stringent ban on the dog meat trade, imposing severe penalties on offenders, including a maximum prison sentence of three months and a hefty fine of up to 50 million rupiah (approximately 2,300 pounds), serving as a strong deterrent to those who would engage in this illicit activity.

Unlike regulated agricultural practices, the dog meat trade often relies on the inhumane seizure of dogs that are not raised for food, including stolen pets, community-owned dogs, and street dogs.

Animal welfare organizations, including Animals International, have condemned the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat, citing the inherent cruelty of the trade. They argue that the dog meat trade not only subjects dogs to immense suffering but also poses serious health and safety risks to both tourists and local communities.

However, dog meat is considered a part of traditional cuisine and consumed in certain regions of Southeast and East Asia, including China, Vietnam, and North Korea.

Franco-Swiss Airport Briefly Evacuated For "Security Reasons" Ahead Of Olympics Opening Ceremony

A Franco-Swiss airport was temporarily evacuated following a bomb threat Friday, hours after arson attacks disrupted the French rail network ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony.

EuroAirport, located on the French side of the border near Basel, said on its website that it had reopened and that flight operations were gradually restarting.

Earlier, the Basel-Mulhouse airport said it had been evacuated and closed "for safety reasons".

The prefecture of France's Haut-Rhin department told AFP the evacuation had been due to a bomb threat and that bomb-disposal experts were deployed.

Several French airports, including EuroAirport, had to be evacuated late last year due to a series of fake bomb threats.

EuroAirport welcomed eight million passengers in 2023.

The evacuation came as French authorities were hunting for the perpetrators of arson attacks on the high-speed train network, which disrupted travel for hundreds of thousands of people.

The Paris Olympics opening ceremony will be held Friday evening.

When 80% Andhra MLAs Stood Up In Response To This Question By Chandrababu Naidu

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly witnessed some lighter moments on Thursday as almost 80 per cent of the MLAs responded when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted all those who were booked during the previous government of YSR Congress Party to stand up.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh and several other ministers were among those who stood up.

One of the women MLAs heard saying she had seven cases booked against her.

"Cases were booked against all those who were fighting politically. He (former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy) did not want to see any of them out (of jail) but people sent all of them directly to the Assembly," Naidu said in the Assembly while presenting a White Paper on the law and order situation during the YSRCP rule.

Mr Naidu vowed to place Andhra Pradesh in the first position in the country in terms of the best law and order situation. He said all the politically motivated cases would be reviewed. The Chief Minister said the government was also ready to punish all those officials who registered illegal cases.

He said except the Babli case, he never had any other case against him but after the YSRCP came to power, 17 cases were booked against him while seven cases were booked against Pawan Kalyan.

Mr Naidu mentioned that about 60 cases were booked against TDP leader J. C. Prabhakar Reddy. Cases under the SC/ST Atrocities Act were registered against present Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi and Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu. Then MP Raghurama Krishna Raju was tortured in lock-up, he said and alleged that then Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy drew sadistic pleasure by watching the video of the torture.

He alleged that under the YSRCP rule, people suffered physical and mental trauma. "YSRCP leaders with the police attacked the very roots of democracy," he said and recalled that the Legislative Council Chairman was not allowed to function when a bill for creating three state capitals was tabled.

Mr Naidu agreed to Pawan Kalyan's suggestion that another session be called for a thorough discussion on law and order. He also advised NDA members not to land the government in trouble and made it clear that the government would punish anyone disturbing peace and law and order.

The Chief Minister said law and order can be maintained when officials perform their duties in accordance with the law. He also assured the house that a separate wing would be created in the police department to monitor social media. He warned that those posting content derogatory to women would not be spared.

Thousands Protest Netanyahu Outside US Capitol, Call For Gaza Ceasefire

Thousands gathered in Washington on Wednesday to protest Benjamin Netanyahu and call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, as the Israeli premier prepared to address the US Congress.

Crowds carrying Palestinian flags and signs ranging from left-wing slogans to Bible verses gathered outside the Capitol calling for a ceasefire and the arrest of Netanyahu, as prosecutors seek a warrant for him at the International Criminal Court.

"The hypocrisy of our (US) politicians today has gone beyond any limits," Mo, a 58-year-old protester, told AFP.

Netanyahu will address Congress later Wednesday in a high-profile speech to the US government, Israel's steadfast ally in its war against Hamas.

Relations have grown strained as the civilian death count in Gaza has grown, leading to protests in the United States and increasing criticism from President Joe Biden's administration, though little has changed in the way of US military support.

Protesters gathered Wednesday were calling for a ceasefire while also criticizing Netanyahu's appearance in the United States.

"Seek peace and pursue it," read one sign, quoting a Bible verse, while others were designed as criminal "wanted" signs, with photos of Netanyahu in place of a mugshot.

"Arrest that war criminal," read another.

"We are horrified by the destruction of the health system in Gaza," Karameh Kuemmerle, of the organization Doctors Against Genocide, told AFP.

"And we are here to show our opposition to having the criminal Netanyahu come to our capital and being greeted by the politicians who sent him weapons to kill children in Gaza," the doctor, who traveled to Washington from Boston, said.

Israel has recently intensified its attacks on Gaza and Netanyahu has insisted that only piling on military pressure can free the hostages and defeat Hamas, which launched a shock attack on October 7 that resulted in the deaths of 1,197 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The militants also seized 251 hostages, 116 of whom are still in Gaza, including 44 the Israeli military says are dead.

Israel's retaliatory military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 39,145 people, also mostly civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run territory's health ministry.

In Budget 2024, The Lok Sabha Election Effect

The first budget of the third term of Narendra Modi government bore a clear imprint of the recent Lok Sabha election, in which the BJP failed to gain majority on its own and had to depend on allies to form government. The reaction went beyond the special packages for Nitish Kumar's Bihar and Chandrababu Naidu's Andhra Pradesh – a compensatory gesture for the blocked special category status that both states had demanded.

The biggest focus of this budget was employment for the country's young people -- across all sectors and including the opportunity for apprenticeship in private companies. The government is also providing a month's salary upto Rs 15,000 to the new recruits through Direct Benefit Transfer.

The deal is sweetened for employers with subsidy on the employer's share of Provident Fund Payments.

One crore people will get jobs in a year under this project, the minister said, making it clear that the BJP considers unemployment and the subsequent concern among the young people as one of  the  key reasons for its lacklustre performance.

There is also an effort to boost economy by reworking of tax slabs in the new tax regime and pushing up the standard deduction from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 that alone can provide an extra 17,500 in the hands of employees and boost consumption and therefore demand.

The deduction on family pension for pensioners was enhanced from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.

There is also some relief in other areas, with cuts on customs duty on cellphones and chargers, drugs for cancer, seafood, leather and gold. After many years, the government has not increased tax on tobacco.

"My proposals for customs duties intend to support domestic manufacturing, deepen local value addition, promote export competitiveness, and simplify taxation, while keeping the interest of the general public and consumers surmount," Ms Sitharaman said while presenting the budget.

Largescale unemployment and the lack of disposable income in the hands of the people had kept the economy stymied and big projects lie unfinished. A case in point would be infrastructure for which there are few takers. Investments have been subdued and the labour market weak, with millions holding down low-productive jobs.

Woman, 45, Who Died After DTC Bus Rammed Pillar, Was Family's Sole Breadwinner

When Savita Devi, 45, left home for work on Monday morning, little did her family know this was the last time they would see her.

Shortly after she left, her son-in-law Arun received a call from police asking him to reach Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh. The DTC bus she took to work had rammed into a pillar near Shivaji Park metro station in west Delhi, killing her and injuring 34 others.

"I rushed to the hospital with my wife. Doctors at the hospital had declared my mother-in-law dead. There were injury marks on her head and legs. I learnt that she was sitting behind the bus driver's seat," said Arun.

"My mother-in-law used to travel by bus every day to go to Naraina for work," he said.

Savita Devi, who worked as a sweeper with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was the sole breadwinner of her family. Her husband Om Prakash died due to an ailment.

"Savita had a son and a daughter. Both of them are married," a police officer said.

According to police, the bus driver claimed he lost control of the vehicle when a motorcycle and an autorickshaw moving ahead took a sharp right turn. He claimed he tried to stop the bus to avoid a collision but ended up hitting the pillar the police said.

As the bus driver suddenly applied the brakes, another autorickshaw behind the bus rammed into it. Passengers of the autorickshaw were among those injured.

Case Against Jindal Group Executive For Harassing Woman On Flight

A case was filed against a senior executive of a Jindal Group company for allegedly harassing a female co-passenger on a Kolkata-Abu Dhabi flight, an officer of the Bidhannagar City Police said on Sunday.

The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman's parents at the Airport police station on the northern outskirts of Kolkata on Saturday, he said.

The police officer said that the victim passenger has also emailed her complaint regarding the matter which they are treating as a formal one.

"We have started an investigation into the matter," he said, adding that they were planning a video conference with her to record her statement.

The female passenger, in a series of posts on X, had alleged that the executive showed her some obscene videos by calling them movie clips, triggering an outrage.

A case was filed under BNS sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 75 (uttering words or making gestures or exhibiting any object in any form insulting the modesty of a woman), the officer said.

On Friday, Jindal Steel and Power Chairman Naveen Jindal promised to investigate allegations of harassment against the executive, saying his group has a zero-tolerance policy in such matters.

The executive has been sent on administrative leave and a third-party investigation has been started to probe the matter, a statement by a Jindal Group company said on Saturday.

"Had Distinct Misfortune Of Watching Trump's Speech": Biden

US President Joe Biden hit out at Donald Trump on Saturday for his "dark vision" for the country and said he will resume campaign next week to expose his Republican rival's Project 2025 agenda amidst Democrats' calls for him to quit the race.

In a thread of 13 posts on X, Biden, 81, said he had the “distinct misfortune of watching” Trump's speech, which he fact-checked and tore down the latter's claims one by one, at times, supporting it by what his government did on that issue late on Friday night local time.

Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago, is in isolation at his home in Delaware. After this week's rest, he is expected to hit the campaign trail next week as he aims to seek re-election.

“I'm stuck at home with COVID, so I had the distinct misfortune of watching Donald Trump's speech to the RNC. What the hell was he talking about?” Biden started with this post on X while poking fun at the keynote speech of the opposition party's presidential nominee for the November 5 election at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Biden then added 11 other posts each fact-checking issues, including what Trump, 78, did with COVID-19, his claim about Social Security and Medical, tax cuts, inflation, and Project 2025 agenda where Trump wants “to throw immigrants into mass detention camps.” The post which said, “He praised Hannibal Lecter. Donald, Hannibal Lecter is not real. And he is a cannibal,” almost went viral garnering the most retweets and likes among other posts in the thread.

The thread ended with: “And if you're with me, pitch in to our campaign” and had a poster showing Trump and his running mate J D Vance and a caption: ‘Protect Democracy. Defeat Trump-Vance.' Meanwhile, in a statement issued by his campaign, Biden said: “Donald Trump's dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box.” “I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump's Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms and create opportunity for everyone,” he said.

“For over 90 minutes, he focused on his own grievances, with no plan to unite us and no plan to make life better for working people,” said the president referring to Trump's speech.

“He avoided mentioning his Project 2025 agenda, but still proudly flaunted the worst of MAGA (Make America Great Again) extremism," Biden said, referring to Trump's mention of immigrants. “Americans know exactly where he wants to take this country.” One of the priorities of Project 2025, published by the Heritage Foundation, is to create a roadmap for the first 180 days of the new Trump administration to quickly reorient every federal agency around its conservative vision. It also aims to recruit and train thousands of people loyal to the conservative movement to fill federal government positions, according to CNN.

The Biden-Harris campaign alleged: “Trump is still the same twice-impeached, 34-time convicted felon consumed by revenge and hell-bent on seeking retribution in a second term.” Days after Biden's disastrous performance against Trump in the first presidential debate, Democrats remained split on whether he can beat the former president in November and as of Friday at least 10 Democrats had joined the chorus calling on him to step back.

Ensure Equal Rights For LGBTQ+ Community In Jail: Centre Writes To States

The Union Government has written a letter to States and Union Territories and asked them to ensure that members of the queer community (LGBTQ+) get equal rights in prison and there is no discrimination in access to goods and services, especially with reference to prison visitation rights.

The letter written by Director (Prison Reforms) reads that it has been the constant endeavour of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to reach out to all States and Union Territories and share contemporary guidelines and best practices on varied aspects of efficient prison administration and management.

With the objective of ensuring that there is no discrimination in access to goods and services to the queer community, which are available to the public at large, especially with reference to prison visitation rights, the following guidelines are reiterated.

The Model Prison Manual (2016 reads that every prisoner shall be allowed reasonable facilities for seeing or communicating with his/her family members, relatives, friends and legal advisers for the preparation of an appeal, procuring bail or for arranging the management of his/her property and family affairs. Apple's shares rose 2.5% to a record high on Monday after Morgan Stanley raised its price target on the iPhone maker's shares and designated the stock as a "top pick," citing the company's AI efforts as a boost to device sales.

In what was seen as a move to catch up with Alphabet's Google and Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the iPad maker last month unveiled Apple Intelligence, luring customers to upgrade their devices to be able to use the new technology.

Apple's shares, which have jumped nearly 20% this year, rose to $236.30, giving the company a market value of $3.62 trillion, the highest in the world.

"Apple Intelligence is a clear catalyst to boost iPhone and iPad shipments," Morgan Stanley analysts said.

The new technology is compatible with only 8% of iPhone and iPad devices and Apple has 1.3 billion units of smartphones currently in use by customers, the analysts said, adding that the company could sell nearly 500 million iPhones over the next two years.

Morgan Stanley, which previously expected Apple to sell between 230 million and 235 million iPhones annually over the next two years, raised its price target on the company's shares to $273 from $216.

The stock has an average rating of "buy" with a median price target of $217, and has outperformed the S&P 500 index this year, according to LSEG data.

Industry analysts expect Samsung and Apple to lead the charge in global smartphone market recovery this year given the buzz around GenAI-enabled smartphones.

Apple sold 45.2 million smartphones globally in the three months ending June, up from 44.5 million a year earlier, but its market share fell to 15.8% from 16.6% in the same period, according to IDC data.

Delhi Pollution Under Control Centres To Be Shut From July 15: Petrol Pump Owners

Petrol pump owners said PUC centres will be shut from Monday onwards, expressing their dissatisfaction over the recent proposed hike in rates of pollution certificates by the city government.

The operation of the pollution under control (PUC) centres is unviable, they said in a statement issued on Sunday.

Delhi government on Thursday increased the PUC certificate charges for petrol, CNG and diesel vehicles after a gap of about 13 years. The hike ranges between Rs 20 and Rs 40.

The new rates will be effective as soon as it is notified by the Delhi government, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had said.

In a statement issued, the Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association (DPDA) said, "Since the operation of PUC centres is unviable, many PUC centres have surrendered their licenses in the last few months. The managing committee of the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association has thus resolved to close PUC centres at their retail outlets across Delhi from July 15 in light of arbitrary and grossly insufficient hike in PUC certification rates, which will not in any way mitigate the losses of the dealers in operating the PUC centres," the statement said.

The Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association, after eight years of writing letters to the transport department and the transport minister had earlier called for a closure of the PUC centres from July 1 due to its unviability, it said.

The association said PUC rates were last revised in 2011 after a gap of six years and the percentage increase then was more than 70 per cent.

"The rate hike announced by the Delhi government now after 13 years is merely 35 per cent whereas all our expenses in the operation of a PUC centre have increased multiple times with just the wages having increased three times from 2011 to 2024," the statement said.

Oil marketing companies have also been charging heavy rents from the PUC centres -- 10-15 per cent of the total revenue -- which was not the case earlier, the statement said.

"Various other operational costs of the PUC centre have drastically increased over the last 13 years. The expense to the customer earlier was four times the current cost as the frequency of PUC certification was once a quarter, which has now come down to once a year due to changes in certification norms for BS-IV and above vehicles. This also has led to a reduction of revenue by 75 per cent," it said.

"The Hon'ble Minister of Transport, Govt. of NCT of Delhi in a meeting with Delhi Petrol Dealers Association had called our demands legitimate. The Delhi govt proposed a 75 per cent hike based on the inflation index with simple interest calculation, after which we deferred our strike on June 30.

"While we were trying to convince our dealers to agree on the 75 per cent hike in pollution checking rates, we were informed by the press of a hike of Rs. 20, Rs. 30 and Rs. 40 in the above mentioned segments, which is merely a 35 per cent average hike. We have also come to know that there is no basis or justification for the calculation, and the figure is arrived at arbitrarily," the statement said.

No Independent MLAs - A First For Himachal's Electoral History

With the two-party system taking deep roots in Himachal Pradesh, and the Congress and the BJP coming to power alternately, the presence of Independents has been declining and, in a first, the assembly has no Independent MLAs in the state assembly.

With victory in two out of three assembly by-elections, the strength of Congress has increased to 40. This is also the first time that a man and his wife - Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his wife Kamlesh Thakur - would sit in the House. Kamlesh Thakur's win from the Dehra assembly seat has taken the number of women legislators in the state to two.

In the 2022 assembly elections, three Independents - Hoshiyar Singh (Dehra), Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur). and KL Thakur (Nalagarh) - were elected but they resigned after voting for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha election on February 27.

The Independent MLAs resigned on March 22 and joined the BJP the next day. Their resignation was accepted by Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on June 3 and by-elections were held on July 10.

All three former Independent legislators got tickets from the BJP but lost to Congress in two seats while the BJP won one.

During the election campaign, Chief Minister Sukhu maintained that the Independent MLAs did not need to resign as "they can support or oppose any party" and questioned why they sought re-election after 15 months when they did not have to.

The Independent MLAs have played an important role in the state's electoral politics. Sixteen Independents were elected in 1967 while 12 were elected in 1957, eight in 1952, seven each in 1972 and 1993, six each in 1977, 1982, and 2003, five in 2012, three each in 1962, 2007, and 2022, two each in 1985 and 2017, and one each in 1990 and 1998.

In 1998, Romesh Dhawala who was the lone Independent MLA, emerged kingmaker as the Congress with his support, and BJP-HVC (Himachal Vikas Congress) combine had 32 members each in the House which had an effective strength of 64. Elections in three snowbound tribal constituencies were slated for June while in another seat BJP MLA Varinder Kumar died before taking oath, necessitating a by-election.

Being the leader of the single-largest party, Governor VS Ramadevi invited Congress leader Virbhadra Singh to form the government on March 6, 1998, and Mr Dhawala was inducted as a cabinet minister.

However, Virbhadra Singh announced his resignation in the House on March 12 without facing the floor test, and the assembly was held in suspended animation by the Governor.

In the meantime, Mr Dhawala extended support to the BJP-HVC combine and the Governor asked the BJP to form the government Prem Kumar Dhumal took oath as Chief Minister on March 24, and Mr Dhawala was inducted as a minister in his cabinet.

Later that year, BJP-HVC won all four seats in the bypolls and the strength of the ruling alliance rose to 36 and the government lasted the full term.

In this year's Rajya Sabha election too, after both candidates got 34 votes each, the support of three Independents broke the deadlock and helped the BJP candidate win by a draw of lots.

Tata Curvv Shows Off Water-Wading, Temperature-Bearing Skills In Videos: Watch

Tata Motors is preparing to launch a new SUV in the country - Curvv. We all know about it and saw its near-production concept with a petrol-powerplant at the last Auto Expo. The carmaker has been testing for quite some time now. Spyshots have revealed its silhouette, which has raised the excitement around the Curvv. The upcoming Tata Curvv will be a coupe SUV, sitting in between the Harrier and the Nexon. Yes! It will be the much-needed rival from the indigenous brand for the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. If all goes right, it could be to Creta, what the Punch is to the Exter. Expect it to score big marks on the design front, at least. The brand has released some videos on its official YouTube channel, showcasing Curvv's water-wading, gradient-climbing, heat-bearing, and cold-sustaining skills.

In another video, the Curvv can be seen doing some action around Jaisalmer and in Ladakh. The vehicle is shown operating seamlessly in both scorching heat and freezing cold, reflecting its ability to maintain performance and reliability in varied climates.

The video shot in Jaisalmer claims that the temperature was 50 degrees Celsius, whereas, in the hilly environment, it ranged from -20 to 30 degrees Celsius at an elevation of more than 17,000 ft from the sea level. These numbers testify to Tata Motors' sheer interest in making the Curvv capable of handling extremes of both ends. However, for real-world tests, we will have to wait until its launch.

The videos further show different kinds of underhood ventilation openings on the test mules, giving a hint of multiple powertrain choices. The dashboard shows a battery indicator, confirming the arrival of the Curvv EV as well. The Curvv will also get steering-mounted paddle shifters and a rotary dial for driving modes, namely City, Eco, and Spot.

The video highlights the Curvv's capability to navigate deep water. This water-wading demonstration is done at the brand's R&D centre. Furthermore, it takes up a 50% gradient with ease, even in reverse gear. In all likelihood, the Curvv will be a strong contender in the mid-size SUV space, where the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and MG Astor compete with each other.

UK's Conservative Party MP Bob Blackman Takes Oath On Bible, Bhagavad Gita

Conservative MP Bob Blackman has taken the oath of office, swearing allegiance to King Charles on both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Mr Blackman took the oath on the Gita in 2019 as well.

The 68-year-old posted a video on X, saying he was “proud” to have taken his oath of allegiance to King Charles “on the King James Bible and the Gita”. He was seen holding both the Bhagavad Gita and the Bible in his hands during the event.

Mr Blackman represents the Harrow East constituency, which has a significant Hindu population. His decision to take the oath on the Gita may be seen as a gesture to connect with his Hindu voters.

Earlier, Mr Blackman, an avid supporter of Hindu rights, spoke out over the British media's biased reporting of the Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya. He claimed that the BBC's coverage was inaccurate as they failed to acknowledge the site's 2000-year-old history as a temple before the “Muslims had been allocated a five-acre site on which to erect a mosque adjacent to the town.” Instead, he said, that the BBC focused solely on the mosque's destruction, putting forth a narrative that has caused "great disharmony" among Hindus worldwide.

Bob Blackman was recently elected as the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, a powerful group that will play a major role in selecting the next leader of the Conservative Party.

Meanwhile, Indian-origin Shivani Raja, the new Conservative MP for Leicester East, also took oath on the sacred Bhagavad Gita. It's the first time in 37 years that a Conservative has won the Leicester East seat.

In the recent UK elections, the Conservative Party suffered a major blow, winning only 121 seats. Meanwhile, the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, won a staggering 411 seats in the 650-seat house.

People In West Dissatisfied With State of Democracy, Indians Say...

Elections are taking place in major democracies across the globe, incorporating almost half of the world's population. The United States will go to polls in November. Halfway through the year, elections have taken place in Russia, South Korea, the European Union, Belgium, Mexico, Pakistan, France, and Taiwan. India, the world's largest democracy, concluded the electoral exercise in human history.

Interestingly, a report from Pew Research suggests that high-income nations, mostly in the West, are dissatisfied with the way democracy is working in their country.

Who All Are Dissatisfied?

The Pew Research Center conducted over 900 interviews in 27 countries and asked respondents, "How satisfied are you with the democracy working in your country?"

In North America, 68 per cent of people are dissatisfied with the current functioning of democracy. The decline in satisfaction witnessed since 2021, shows a 10 per cent dip in the US. In Mexico, an equal percentage of respondents were satisfied and dissatisfied. In Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, only 52 per cent of people are okay with the functioning of democracy. Read the full report here

In Europe, only Sweden fared well, with 75 per cent of respondents feeling satisfied with the way democracy is. Interestingly, France, one of the oldest democracies in the world saw 35 per cent pleased.  Greece was the lowest at 22 per cent.

In Asia, only Singapore and India reported over 75% satisfaction. In India, 77 per cent were satisfied with the way democracy is. In Singapore, the percentage stands at 80 per cent. Japan was at the lowest at 31 per cent.

Out of 27 countries, over 50 per cent of respondents in 11 countries are satisfied with democracy. Respondents from 11 countries in the west out of 17, are not majorly not satisfied.

The UK saw a major shift in political inclination with the Conservatives under Rishi Sunak voted out and Keir Starmer's Labour securing a landslide win after 13 years. In France, a major political turmoil is being witnessed as the  National Assembly delivered a hung parliament, making it hard to know who will be in key government positions.

In the US, Joe Biden is seeking another term amid concerns over his health, while Donald Trump, who is facing legal troubles, is hoping to come back to power.

Claudia Sheinbaum was elected Mexico's first woman president by a landslide, making history in a country plagued by rampant criminal and gender-based violence.

Putin tightened its grip on Russia with a reelection which saw little to no opposition. He has been in power since the last day of 1999, he is now on course to become the longest-serving Russian leader in more than two centuries.

Sheena Bora's Remains Lying At CBI Office In Delhi, Court Told

Weeks after it informed that parts of the purported skeleton of murder victim Sheena Bora were untraceable, the prosecution on Wednesday told the trial court here that they were lying at the CBI's office in New Delhi.

Sheena Bora (24) was allegedly murdered by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and others in 2012.

The revelation came on a day when the trial court received an email alleging that Sheena's bones had not gone missing but they were in the possession of a forensic expert who had examined the skeleton and who was deposing before the court as a witness.

This witness had suddenly amassed wealth, the email further alleged.

The special CBI judge S P Naik Nimbalkar informed the defence lawyers present in the court on Wednesday about the email.

After reading it, the lawyers submitted that the allegation should be investigated.

The judge then sought a response from the central probe agency.

The prosecution noted that it had first informed the court about Sheena's remains being untraceable on April 24, and on June 10 it further stated that they could not be found.

"But meanwhile, again after going through the office 'malkhana' (store).... the articles i.e. the bones are (found to be) lying in the malkhana," prosecutor C J Nandode said.

The CBI did not rely on these articles as evidence as they were not cited in the chargesheet, and it wanted to proceed without bringing them on record, the prosecution added.

The court then resumed the cross examination of the forensic expert.

Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive who is the prime accused in the murder case, is now out on bail.

The murder came to light in 2015, three years after Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car by her mother with the help of Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012.

The body was allegedly burnt in a forest in the neighboring Raigad district.

Bora was Indrani's daughter from a previous relationship.

Man Killed For Objecting To Noise During Neighbours Fight In Delhi: Cops

A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death while his younger brother was critically injured after they were attacked by their neighbours for objecting to noise and commotion during their family fight in east Delhi's Ghazipur area, police on Wednesday said.

The incident took place when an accused identified as Saransh (22) was on Tuesday night fighting with his family members, who live on the second floor in a residential building at B Block of Ghazipur.

Vicky Soni (30), who lived with his family on the first floor in the same building, objected to the loud noise that occurred due to the fight, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Apoorva Gupta.

On this when Vicky came out of his room after dinner, Saransh assaulted him and fled to the second floor, she said.

Subsequently, Vicky and his younger brother Ricky went upstairs to inform his father Pradeep.

"A quarrel ensued between Saransh, Pradeep and Vicky. Saransh then grabbed a knife and stabbed both Vicky and Ricky, who tried to intervene and save his brother," Gupta said.

"Both the brothers received multiple wounds. They were taken to the hospital where Vicky succumbed to his injuries while Ricky is recuperating," she added.

After the incident, the police was called and a case under section 103(1), 109(1), 238(a), 3(5) of the BNS was registered at the Ghazipur police station and both the accused Saransh and his father Pradeep, who is a security guard, were arrested, the officer said.

Saransh is class 9 pass and is unemployed, she said.

Vicky, who ran a mobile accessories shop in a weekly market, is survived by his wife and three children. His brother Ricky also lives with his wife in the same same house.

The police has collected the CCTV footages from near the house and recorded the statements of both the family members. They were also probing if there was an involvement of other people as well.

Unconditional Apology To Supreme Court Published Widely: Medical Body Chief

Indian Medical Association (IMA) president RV Asokan told the Supreme Court on Tuesday his unconditional apology to the top court over his "damaging" statements in an interview to PTI, where he had answered queries about Patanjali Ayurved Ltd's misleading advertisements case, has been published in various publications.

The IMA's counsel told a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta that his unconditional apology has been published in the association's monthly publication, on the IMA's website, as also by PTI.

"Last time, I (Asokan) had submitted an affidavit of apology. Your lordships were of the opinion that the apology should be given proper publicity like the interview...," senior advocate PS Patwalia, appearing for the IMA, told the bench.

He said the IMA has a monthly publication, and on its first page, a full page advertisement says that Mr Asokan has apologised, expressed regret to the top court and has submitted his affidavit tendering unconditional apology.

Mr Patwalia said if the IMA's website is opened, the apology comes immediately as a pop-up.

"Third, I have sent the apology to the PTI news. PTI has published it," he said, adding that the same has been shared with other media houses as well. "Where is your publication in PTI?" Justice Kohli asked Mr Patwalia, who then referred to the news published by PTI.

"The deponent (Asokan) has also conveyed his unconditional apology and regret expressed to this court in the deponent's affidavit to the same news agency to whom the interview had been given by the deponent on April 29," he said, adding the unconditional apology was reported in various news publications.

The bench asked senior advocate Balbir Singh, who was appearing for Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, whether they have seen the additional affidavit filed by Mr Asokan.

"Balbir Singh, senior advocate appearing for the respondents, states that the respondents may be permitted to peruse the affidavit and assist the court on the next date of hearing," the bench noted in its order and posted the matter for further hearing on August 6.

The bench told Singh, "If you want to file a reply, its okay. You don't need to file a reply. It is really between the court and the party but you can assist the court in whatever way you want to." Mr Patwalia told the bench that Mr Asokan was personally present in the court and he may be exempted from personal appearance.

"He is exempted for the present from appearance," the bench said, while granting the request.

During the hearing on May 14, the bench had posed some tough question to Mr Asokan over his "damaging" statements against the court in an interview to PTI and said, "You cannot sit on a couch giving an interview to the press and lampooning the court." The court had then made it clear that it will not accept his affidavit tendering apology at that stage.

Expressing displeasure over Mr Asokan's comments a day before the top court was slated to the hear the matter, it had sought his response on an application filed by Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, which had urged the court to take judicial notice of the statements made by him.

In an interaction with PTI editors on April 29 for its programme '@4 Parliament Street,' the IMA president had said it was "unfortunate" that the Supreme Court criticised the association and also some of the practices of private doctors.

Mr Asokan was replying to a query about the Supreme Court's observations during a hearing on April 23, when it had said while it was pointing one finger at Patanjali, the remaining four fingers were pointed towards IMA. The top court is hearing a plea filed in 2022 by the IMA alleging a smear campaign by Patanjali against the Covid vaccination drive and modern systems of medicine.

Woman, Lover Murder Her Husband With Scissors In Greater Noida, Arrested: Cops

A married woman and her partner were arrested on Sunday for the brutal murder of her husband, carried out with a pair of scissors a week ago in Greater Noida, police officials said.

The couple were arrested near the ATS roundabout in Greater Noida, they said.

The murder weapon, a pair of scissors, was recovered from their possession, according to a police spokesperson.

"Pooja and Prahlad, both from the same village, had been involved in an extramarital relationship even before Pooja moved with her husband Mahesh to Bironda village for work," the spokesperson said.

Mahesh, in search of employment, had relocated his family to Bironda in Greater Noida and found work as a sanitation worker. During this time, Pooja called Prahlad to Greater Noida under the pretext of helping him find a job. Prahlad secured a position as a security guard at NFL Society and began visiting Pooja frequently, the official said.

On the night of July 1, Prahlad visited Pooja at her home in Mahesh's absence. However, Mahesh unexpectedly returned home and discovered his wife with Prahlad in a compromising situation, the official said.

"A violent confrontation ensued, during which Pooja and Prahlad attacked Mahesh with a pair of scissors, ultimately killing him. They then attempted to hide the body by throwing it onto the roof of a toilet before fleeing the scene," the police spokesperson said.

The accused have been booked for murder under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the FIR has been lodged at the local Beta 2 police station in Greater Noida, the police said.

Law Commission Was Bypassed For New Criminal Laws, Says P Chidambaram

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday claimed that the Centre bypassed the Law Commission in enacting the three new criminal laws that came into effect from July 1.

The Law Commission, comprising of retired judges, legal experts, professors, and permanent legal staff, would normally hold consultations with bar council members, and advocate associations and prepare a draft to be presented in the Parliament, he said.

But the Law Commission was bypassed and five or six "part-timers" were appointed for a panel, he said on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, replacing the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act.

"The laws were not referred to the Law Commission nor was it consulted. This is wrong," Mr Chidambaram said while speaking at a protest organised here by the DMK advocate wing against the new laws.

"World over, the death penalty has been abolished. But, here solitary confinement was included as a punishment, which is an unusual and cruel punishment as per the Constitution," he said.

Such a punishment was not prevailing anywhere in the world, the former Union Minister added.

"Similarly, life sentence and life sentence to the remainder of life have been included. What is the difference?" he asked.

Further, Mr Chidambram said that he has been insisting upon a debate on the new laws for several months but the government has not agreed it was not prepared for it.

He reiterated that 90-99 per cent of the new laws were cut, copy and paste work. The government could have instead brought a few amendments.

"I did not say there should be no reforms. ... they should have brought an amendment. They changed only the section numbers. Advocates, judges and police should now read again," the Congress leader said.

For instance, even a child or a newly recruited police constable would know that section 302 referred to murder but now this number has been changed, adding to the confusion, he claimed.

Actor Sahil Khan Gets Bail In Mahadev Betting App Case

A court in Mumbai has granted bail to actor Sahil Khan in the Mahadev betting app case. Additional sessions judge VM Pathade allowed his bail application on Wednesday, though the detailed order was not available yet.

Mr Khan, in his plea, claimed that most of the allegations against him were "speculative" and there was no concrete evidence.

The complaint filed against the actor was politically motivated, said the plea filed through advocate Faiz Merchant.

Not a single member or player using the Mahadev Online Book app - which is accused of facilitating online betting on a variety of games and activities - had filed a complaint against any of the accused named in the First Information Report, the application said.

The accused cooperated with the investigation since his arrest, it pointed out.

The actor was arrested from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh in April this year after the Bombay High Court rejected his pre-arrest bail plea.

Mr Khan, known for films like "Style" and "Excuse Me", now works as a fitness expert.

A special investigation team is conducting a probe into alleged illegal transactions between certain financial and real estate firms and the promoters of the controversial app.

The size of the scam was about Rs 15,000 crore, as per the FIR registered by the Matunga police.

Police claimed in their reply to the bail plea that an investigation was underway against Sahil Khan and 31 other individuals.

The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the money laundering aspect of the case.

"No Confrontation With BJP": JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha On Bihar Special Status Resolution

JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha rubbished speculations that the party's push for a special status for Bihar could lead to a confrontation with the NDA government at the Centre.

The Rajya Sabha MP, on his first trip to the state after being appointed to the top party post, exuded confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) will fare well in the Bihar assembly polls due next year and expand its footprints elsewhere.

"Many are hoping that in the light of the party resolution passed last week, there is going to be a confrontation (with the Centre). Such people are in for a disappointment", asserted Mr Jha, a former BJP man whose elevation is being seen as a signal from Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) chief, that he wants good relations with the senior ally.

"The resolution has also made it clear that we want help - be it in the form of special status or special package. The Prime Minister is sensitive toward our concerns. In the next five years, Bihar would be among the developed states, powered by ample central assistance," Mr Jha added.

The former Bihar minister also uttered the famous Bollywood one-liner "Tiger abhi zinda hai (the tiger is still alive)" and underscored that the Chief Minister proved his mettle in the recently held Lok Sabha polls.

"A section of the media had been writing off Nitish Kumar, underestimating his leadership that transformed Bihar, earlier seen as a difficult state to govern. They had a reality check in the elections," said the JD(U) leader, whose party won 12 seats, as many as the BJP did in Bihar.

After the TDP, the JD(U) has since emerged as the second largest partner of the BJP which fell short of a majority and became heavily dependent on allies to form the government at the Centre.

"The NDA led in 177 out of 243 assembly segments in Bihar in the Lok Sabha polls. Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, the coalition hopes to better its 2010 record, when we won more than 200 seats, in the Vidhan Sabha polls due next year," Mr Jha said.

"Besides, we shall be trying to expand our base in other states by presenting Nitish Kumar's performance in Bihar as a model for governance. We wish to contest assembly polls in adjoining states like Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, as well as farther ones like Delhi and the north-east," said the JD(U) working president.

CA Among 3 Arrested For Fraudulent Take Over Of Insolvent Company

The ED said on Wednesday that it has arrested three persons including a chartered accountant and a resolution professional as part of a money laundering probe linked to an alleged bank loan fraud related to regaining control of an insolvent company from the NCLT.

Chartered accountant (CA) Rakesh Kumar Gulati, Ajay Yadav of resolution applicant firm Umaiza Infracon LLP and a person identified as Paramjeet were taken into custody on July 1 by the Gurugram zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court sent them to ED custody till July 9, the agency said in a statement.

The case pertains to Sunstar Overseas Ltd (SOL), its ex-directors Rakesh Aggarwal, Rohit Aggarwal, Manik Aggarwal, Sumit Aggarwal and others.

The money laundering case stems from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR filed against the company and its former promoters on charges of fraud, criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, cheating and causing wrongful loss of more than Rs 950 crore to a consortium of nine lender banks.

The ex-promoters, directors and key persons of the company, in connivance with each other as well as other related and unrelated entities, "illegally diverted" loan funds by way of sham trade transactions and by creating fictitious debtors, the ED alleged.

The total admitted claims against SOL was Rs 1,274.14 crore and the entity was taken over through corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) proceedings for only Rs 196 crore by a resolution applicant Umaiza Infracon LLP (of Ajay Yadav) which is a "shell" (dummy) entity as it does not have any funds of its own, the agency said.

"The funds for the said shell entity were arranged from the funds diverted from SOL through its former related/unrelated companies and firms and other persons on the instructions of the ex-directors and promoters (of SOL) and its CA Rakesh Gulati.

"Immediately after the NCLT order, SOL was taken over by a frontal company Shivakriti Agro Pvt. Ltd. (SAPL), actually controlled and operated by ex-directors/ promoters of SOL by instrument of a sham facility agreement," the ED said.

Shivakriti Agro Pvt Ltd has been controlled and managed by the ex-directors and promoters of SOL through Paramjeet and its other ex-employees.

"Rakesh Gulati, common CA of SOL and SAPL, and related entities are found to be involved in the conspiracy and diversion of loan funds to regain the actual control and business of an insolvent company from the national company law tribunal (NCLT)," the ED alleged.

250,000 In Southern Gaza Hit By Israel's New Evacuation Order: UN

The UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees estimated Tuesday that a quarter of a million people had been impacted since Israel's army issued a new evacuation order for parts of southern Gaza a day earlier.

"We've seen people moving, families moving, people starting to pack up their belongings and try to leave this area," UNRWA spokeswoman Louise Wateridge told reporters in Geneva via video-link from Gaza.

The agency "estimates that around 250,000 people have been impacted by these orders", she said, adding: "We expect these numbers to grow".

Her comments came after the Israeli army Monday issued a new evacuation order for parts of Khan Yunis and Rafah in southern Gaza.

The 250,000 number was UNRWA's estimate for the people in the area of new evacuation orders in eastern Khan Yunis, Louise Wateridge told AFP.

"We expect that almost all of these people will move from this area," she said, adding that the agency hoped to get a better idea later Tuesday of the numbers who have physically left.

Monday's evacuation order followed mass displacement from large parts of Rafah that began with a similar order nearly two months ago, which signalled the start of a long-feared Israeli ground offensive.

The fighting since then has again uprooted many Palestinians and led to the closure of a key aid crossing.

"This is another devastating blow to the humanitarian response here," Louise Wateridge said.

"It's another devastating blow for the people and the families on the ground. It seems that they are forcibly being displaced again, and again."

She pointed out that following the start of the Rafah incursion in May, people had flooded back into the largely destroyed Khan Yunis area.

"And now already, because of the orders last night, the same families are having to move again," she said.

"There is absolutely no safe place in the Gaza Strip."

Gaza's deadliest war began with Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The militants also seized 251 hostages, 116 of whom remain in Gaza including 42 the army says are dead.

Israel's retaliatory offensive aimed at eradicating the Palestinians militants in Gaza has killed at least 37,925 people, also mostly civilians, according to data from the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

Odisha Chief Minister Resumes Public Grievance Hearing After 16 Years

In a significant move towards public engagement, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday revived public grievance hearings after a hiatus of 16 years.

Charan Majhi personally listened to the grievances of people, issuing necessary instructions to officials concerned.

"After 16 years, the chief minister's grievance cell was opened to the public. Former chief minister Naveen Patnaik had visited the cell for the last time in 2008. People can directly come and apprise me of their problems," Mr Majhi said in a post on X.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), more than 5,000 people visited the grievance cell, and 1,540 grievances were registered during the day.

The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo and Ministers Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Pradeep Balasamanta, and Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, heard grievances from more than 1,000 people.

Speaking to reporters, Majhi said his government prioritises listening to public issues and addressing them. Therefore, the new government has resumed the public grievance hearing programme in all 30 districts and at the state level, he added.

"An iron wall had been erected between the government and the public during the tenure of the previous government. The wall has been removed, and the Chief Minister's grievance cell resumed its function today," he said.

Now, people can apprise the government of their various problems for speedy resolution. Senior officers and district collectors have been directed to hear the grievances of people, the CM said.

Majhi advised the public to first approach the authorities at the district level with their problems for quick redressal. He expressed hope that there would be fewer complaints at the state level in the coming days as most public grievances would be resolved at the district level.

The CM informed that action has so far been initiated on around 99 per cent of the grievances received on the first day of the programme.
